I Voted Design Competition

In the lead up to the 2019 Canadian federal election, Instagram ran an art competition that encouraged artists to create an "I Voted" sticker for Instagram Stories. The goal of the competition was to leverage the widespread reach of Instagram to encourage civic engagement for the upcoming Canadian federal election. Selected by the jury as one of ten finalist, I was commissioned to design the sticker.

My final design:

This sticker represents a hand that is doing a snap with two fingers. The big and the index fingers form into a shape of voting tick, and the sound of the snap is illustrated by a Canadian maple leaf. At the same time, one can see a smiling face in the outline of the hand. The overall emotion transmitted by the sticker is satisfaction from performing a civil resposibility and being an active contributor to society. In order to be non-discriminatory, I have chosen to use grey color for the imaginary face. The minimalist and easily comprehensible design allows to use this graphic as a pin and sticker, both in social media and in printed materials.

I have considered different styles for this idea and created a mockup of final design to showcase the use of the sticker on Instagram platform.
